Harold Van Buuren

Born in Coronationville, Johannesburg, Harold has always excelled academically.
At school he was selected as a Prefect and completed his schooling as Head Boy of his school.

Parallel to his scholastic career, his dance training was started at the age of seven. Harold started off by doing Classical Ballet, then also doing Modern Jazz, Ballroom and Latin American.

Harold started his professional career as a dancer by performing at Sun City in 3 consecutive productions all done by international choreographers:

  • “Steamin’”– Choreographed by Roger Minami (USA)
  • “Showstopper” – Choreographed by Jeff Kutash (USA)
  • “Celebration” – Choreographed by Michael Darren (USA)

He was then employed as Principal Dancer & Assistant Choreographer on the cruise ship ‘Achille Lauro’ and did a world cruise finishing in Australia.

Harold travelled to Switzerland and after two very successful auditions he was employed as a soloist with the “Compagnie Romande de Ballet”, a classical company and a neo-classical & modern company called “Inox”.
He was selected along with 7 other Swiss dancers to represent Switzerland in Bastia, Corsica at the “Festivale Internationale De Danse de Bastia”. The cream of Europe’s dance companies were present and Switzerland walked away with the top prize.

From Corsica, instead of going straight back to Switzerland, Harold then went to Paris and successfully auditioned at “Le Paradis Latin”.
